character history - - - [/blockquote] [/blockquote]born in milan, italy, liah never knew what it was like to have a normal life because her mother, lianne hamilton, died when she was very young. her father, loved her unconditionally from the moment he laid eyes on her but he knew that he couldn’t take her with him when he was on his overseas on business. so instead of bringing her along, he left them with his own mother and father who knew what he did. most people knew him as anthony hamilton, the billionare businessman, even those who didn't know him had an inkling of his name. he owned hamilton and co, one of the largest banking companys in the world, so liah grew up with her grandparents in a large rambling mansion filled with servants payed for by her father. she'd only rarely see her father and began to dislike him for it. at the age of seven she didn't know why she was left alone so much and left without her father.
anyway, when liah was fifteen, she entered into her freshman year of highschool, and that was when she discovered boys. they were her favourite things in the world, especially when she learned how to toy with them when they thought they were really toying with her. it all seemed so easy for her and liah became quite good at it. as she grew up, she learned to deal with the boys that constantly flocked to her. she also started to do things so she would get noticed by her father for once. not that she ever went into drugs, she hated loosing control like that to ever do that. nor did she ever start smoking because that would ruin her perfect white teeth. but she drank, she went out with boys, she slept with them, she drobe fast cars, and she went to even faster parties. this didn't help her situation however because her father still continued to go away on long business trips leaving her alone with the servants and her grandparents. the relationship wasn't too good between her grandparents and her either because they didn't like the way she was living her life nor the people she hung out with. in her opinion they were snobby geriatrics that could go and well, you get the picture.
so at the end of her senior year, she walked into the drawing room one day to find her grandparents discussing possible suitors for her. a huge arguement had ensued with liah leaving the house, grabbing her father's credit cards and running off to new york. some people might have thought this stupid, but her grandparents had been serious about finding her someone to settle down with, permanently. so liah moved to new york and pretty much stayed the same, trying to ignore her grand parent's and her father's calls. it was too late for any of them to get her to go back to italy.

ameliah marie barton entered her apartment, tossing her gucci bag down onto the table that sat near the front door. after her hand bag came her high heels, tossed carelessly near the couch. she’d never been very good at keeping things tidy, which was probably a good thing that her friend tallulah Edwards had come to stay with her. liah paused, and shook her head. sometimes she worried about her friend. she knew what it was like when your parents didn’t give a shit what you wanted, only what they wanted and what was best for them. hell, it was almost like if you had money, you had no conscience, like you couldn’t love anyone but yourself. liah shook her head again, dismissing the thoughts and continued on into her bedroom leaving the door open. since no one had called out when she had come into the apartment, she was certain that no one was here but herself. quickly she shrugged out of the black chanel suit she had adorned herself with, she didn’t know every rich person in the world, though if it came to it, she’d probably know about seventy five percent of them. it wasn’t hard when the rich all ran in only one circle.
still, they were all the same, every last one of them. except for her, and some of the new generation that cared about more than letting mummy and daddy pay for every little thing. it made liah want to laugh every time she saw some of the daughters and sons of her father’s business associates. the way they always seemed to be gossiping about someone, how they could ostrasize someone if they weren’t wearing the right thing. seriously, the boys were just as bad as the girls. good thing she didn’t plan on getting married to any of the wimps, it wasn’t like they could keep up with her anyway. usually they thought they were all that but in the end it was just fluff. liah rolled her eyes, the only boys she’d ever been interested in were the bad boys, and not the stuffy, bought ones. liah had always loved the real thing, they were always more exciting than fakes. and that’s what liah had always looked for in life, excitement. which was mainly the reason why she only liked guys that didn’t run in her own circles. not that her father knew that of course. liah had always been careful to only ever take boys from her own circles to the parties she organized for her father.
liah pulled the hair band from her hair, letting the long tendrils waterfall around her face. it wasn’t on to invite someone different to the dinners, but she would have to. liah mussed her hair up with both hands and glared at the back wall of her room. sometimes she thought life was perfectly fine, but then something always had to go and ruin it. take that day, she’d gotten in early at work, which was surprising, she’d finished a heap of work, but then her dad just had to call her at lunch to ask her to organize a dinner party for twenty people. liah’s full lips turned down in a frown, and now she was worrying over it. it wasn’t the party that had her worried though, it was the date. she’d already tried to call up all the guys she knew, but they already had something on. which is why, after much thinking, she’d rung up gavin Harrison. yes, the gavin Harrison. of course she regretted it now, she’d only met him a couple of times through his twin nathan, but she always managed to make a fool of herself in front of him. still, she needed someone and he was all she had a such short notice. plus, he could finally put that charm to use.
liah stood in her underwear, her suit on the ground. it was almost sinful how much the thing had cost, but what could she do? being a fashion journalist meant she had to keep up with the latest fashions, and besides, hadn’t she always thought of fashion as an art? a symphony of colours, elegant lines and tempting fabric? liah bent down and reached for the suit, laying it carefully into the laundry basket in her room. much as she hated to think it, she knew that she loved her clothes. they were apart of her and how she presented herself to the world. she strode over to the large wardrobe that was slightly shadowed in the room. it had been a warm day, hell, liah had almost wanted to run out of the office and go down to the beach, but unlike most heiress’, she had a job, and one that she intended to keep. no way was she ever going to rely solely on her father, she’d much sooner kill herself. she’d learnt that depending on her father was nothing more than stupid. her father had never seen her as anything else other than a daughter he had nothing to do with but hand over to paid staff.
that was, until she turned eighteen and had started helping him throw parties and dinners for his business. suddenly, liah had been transformed from invisible to an unlisted asset. liah’s frown turned up in a cynical smile as she walked over to her wardrobe and opened the double doors. nothing had ever mattered to her father but work. work, work, work. and even though over the years she had learnt to deal with this, liah still couldn’t help but think of how her life might be if her father had loved her. she sighed. i guess we’ll never know will we? she thought to herself as she picked out a black cropped jacket, jean shorts and a v neck top. quickly she closed the doors. it was only six, maybe seven, maybe when tallulah came back they could go for some Chinese take out, that was, if gavin didn’t stay too long. liah looked towards the clock on her bed side table, she was right, it was about six thirty, not that late, but close enough to the time she’d texted to gavin. he’d be here in about twenty minutes. picking the white shirt off the bed, she pulled it over her head. next, she put on the jean shorts, buttoned them and then picked up her jacket. she’d kept on the long silver necklace she had been wearing earlier.
it was then that she heard her name called out from the living room. liah walked to her bedroom door, shrugging on her jacket as she did so. as she reached the threshold that connected the living room with her bedroom, she tried not to roll her eyes. of course it was gavin, who else would it be? but what was he wearing? if he agreed to this, liah would definitely be dragging him to the closest store to buy him a tux. no way was he going to get the chance to embarrass her. calm down, she thought to herself, you need to keep him sweet so he’ll actually agree to this. liah brought her lips up in one of her notoriously sexy smiles, it was hard not to in the presence of gavin, the guy should be locked away so the female race would be saved from dying of too much drooling. ”glad you came gavin, can i get you something, a drink maybe, before we start?”
