out of all the places he had seen and lived in, miami had to be one of his favorites. of course, there was crime and all the rest, but that didn't seem to bother him. the weather was nice, most of the time. and the people were interesting, to say the very least. it had been just over two years since he first arrived in miami and he actually wanted to stay. he had some good friends and a good job. he was actually settled in, for once in his life. when damon was younger, his parents moved him all over the world. it was hard to make and keep friends that way, especially when you're young. and besides the odd neighbour in new zealand or ireland, damon didn't have many friends from other places. it was weird that way. he had been to over fifteen countries but didn't remember anyone he met, with the exception of a few special people. the truth was, damon wasn't very much of a people person. he liked observing people more than interacting with them. probably because he had spent his entire life watching people go by behind a piece of glass. he kept to himself, and that's the way he liked it. especially now, given his circumstances, he didn't say much to anyone. one slip and he'd be out of miami. and he wanted to stay. he was so sick of moving around.
it was an early saturday morning, if you consider ten a.m early, and the weather outside was absolutely gorgeous. the fall leaves had begun to fall and the weather was too warm for a jacket and too chilly for shorts. also known as perfect. there was no way damon was going to get stuck inside. he had the day off work, although he had to go in around seven just to check in on things. damon had a pretty good job. he was one of four managers at the biltmore hotel. he had recently got the job when he turned twenty-one. he was promoted from the service desk because of his great work ethic and all that jazz. it was a relatively easy job that payed well, and that's exactly what damon wanted. He left his home without having a destination or desire to go any place. he wasn't going to take his car, he was just going to walk and enjoy the weather. weather was something damon never took for granted, especially after living in alaska. you could say snow isn't really damon's thing. another reason why miami is perfect for him.
on his way to wherever he was headed, damon stopped, naturally, to get a grande strawberry lemonade at starbucks. he claimed he hated the place, but it was just so damn addicting. starbucks was busy as always and it took longer than damon had intended for them to get his drink ready. after ten minutes that felt like forever, he was back outside sipping his lemonade and enjoying the sun. it was all a matter of time before damon had found himself entering everglades national park. it was this absolutely breathtaking national park that damon really enjoyed. it was pretty busy with people jogging and walking there dogs and such. the park had a really peaceful vibe, with the sounds of birds over head and the smell of oak trees. it was amazing. with his hands in his pockets, damon made his way down the walking path deeper and deeper into the park. there were various bike and hiking paths that went miles around the park and into the forest. damon had been on them before, but he didn't plan on going on them today. he turned around the bend, following the walking path when a certain girl caught his eye. he did a double take. she looked so familiar. but could it be? he shook his head and continued walking without another glance her way.
