the history ,
5 years ago...MYSTIC (who I will be playing) is a sweet girl, incredibly shy. Really, she's scared of people. She's easily startled... blah blah blah. Anyway, she's not one of those boy-chasing girls. In fact, in sixteen years she has not had a boyfriend, ever. She has lived in Miami all her life, with her former SEAL father, and older brothers. The summer between sophomore and junior year in high school (10th and 11th grade), she turns 16 and decides to get a part-time job at a little cafe` so she can help out a little when she graduates and goes to nursing school. She doesn't expect the job to really be all that significant to her. As far as she can tell, all she'll need to do is smile and take orders. Can't be that important, right? Enter GUY 1. He is 18, and just graduated a week ago. He went to the same high schools as MYSTIC, but because of the difference in year, they had no classes together and he always only got fleeting glances of her in the hallway. He didn't want to seem like a creeper, so he never said anything to her. And now that he's enlisted in the Army, he thinks he's never seeing her again. Today, he is killing time until he has to report to the recruiter's station, and then be hauled off to basic training. So he goes to the cafe` where, lo and behold, MYSTIC is his waitress. He is clearly nervous, so she starts talking to him, and is generally very sweet to him. He asks to meet her after she gets off, because he has five hours before he has to go. She agrees to meet him when she gets off, which would be in half an hour. Sure enough, when she gets off, instead of going straight home like she normally would, she meets GUY 1 at the small pier located close to the cafe`. They have a rather lengthy conversation, getting to know each other quickly, and GUY 1 promises to find her when he gets back. Sure enough, once he gets back, he finds her, and they are officially dating, even while he goes to advanced training. Shortly after coming home from AIT, though, GUY 1 gets the news- he's going overseas. It was the summer between junior and senior year (11th and 12th grade) for MYSTIC, and she's just turned 17. They spend the next month together practically attached at the hip. The day before GUY 1 is supposed to leave, he takes MYSTIC to a secluded area, where he asks her to marry him, even though she's not 18. She says yes, and they decide to get married when he comes back home- it was supposed to be about a year, so it was good timing. Then, he decided to do something crazy- something that would prove he meant everything, that he loved MYSTIC. It was late, and only one place was open- a tattoo parlor. He got a tattoo on his wrist saying "forever". The next day, GUY 1 left. If was emotional, and MYSTIC was clinging to him for several minutes, just crying and wishing he could stay, but then she let him go so he wouldn 't get in trouble. As promised, they wrote letters as regularly, and called whenever GUY 1 could get to a phone. Then in one letter, GUY 1 informed MYSTIC that he wouldn't be able to write for a while, but not to worry, because he'd been fine so far. But the next letter MYSTIC got wasn't from GUY 1 telling her that everything was okay. It was the "If you're reading this..." letter. GUY 1 was dead. Or, that's what the Army thought. There was a clerical error. He wasn't actually dead- but pretty damn close to it. For a month, he was in a hospital in Germany, completely unconscious. His family flew in, even though he'd made it clear, previously, that he wanted nothing to do with them. Thus, they had no idea about MYSTIC, which was why they didn't call to tell her about the mistake. GUY 1 eventually woke up, but he wasn't the same. Physically, he was scarred. There had been an explosion, and he had burns on his back, as well as a cracked skull. He had no recollection of his past, or anything at all. Once he was well enough to go home, his family took him home, and helped him build a new life. GUY 1 had completely forgotten MYSTIC, who was now heartbroken over his supposed death. GUY 1 found a new set of friends, a new career (the Army discharged him), and rebuild broken relationships with his family, who collectively decided to not tell him about the fighting they'd done before the accident.
since then ,
Mystic met a fellow nurse after graduating nursing school, and they got married. She still missed GUY 1, but because for all she knew he was dead, she allowed herself to move on, never telling him anything about her previous heartbreak. After miscarrying once, they found out Mystic was expecting again, but shortly thereafter he died in a car crash on the way home from work. She is now 8 weeks from her due date, and still living alone.
the plot ,
GUY 1, one day, was reading the newspaper. His memory was still gone, until when he just so happened to be reading a certain section of the paper with wedding announcements, and pictures of the happy couples. They weren't in a picture, but one of the couples listed was MYSTIC and HUSBAND. All of a sudden, his memory came flooding back. Not really all of it, but major pieces- he was once engaged to the woman in the paper- he was sure it must be her, simply because nobody else had that name- he still loved her, and an accident overseas had taken it all away. Slowly, over the next few months, he regained almost all of his memory. But there was still an obstacle- the woman he loved was married. He loved her too much to purposely put her in a position to have to choose, and so he made a tough decision. He would leave her alone. He would act as though he had never regained his memory as far as she went, or never met her in the first place. It would be hard, but it was what he felt had to be done. Then, one day while reading the paper again, he noticed an obituary of the same man to whom Mystic had gotten married. Since then, he has been trying to find her, but is having a difficult time doing so, simply because the address is unlisted. He doesn't know what he will say or do when and if he finds her, and does not know about the baby she is expecting.
